Allison BINGO

St. John’s – Vilmar is in charge of helping with BINGO at the Allison Rehabilitation Center on the first Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. Our next day will be Thursday, June 6. We need volunteers to help, if you are interested in participating, contact Betty Rewerts.

Graduate Recognition

If someone in your family is graduating this year and you’d like their name included in the bulletin and June Herald, please let Monica know by Thursday, May 9. We will recognize the students with a special prayer during the service on Sunday, May 12. If any graduates will be present on May 12, please let us know ASAP so we are able to coordinate flowers and gifts for each grad. Thank You!

Sound System and Live Streaming Training

I would like to get a few people trained in running our systems. I have a detailed booklet that explains how to operate everything, but I would like to sit down and go through it with some people, and take a few Sundays to have hands-on learning experiences with it. I need a few people to learn it in case I am ever not able to be at church. If you would be interested in this, please let me know, and we can coordinate dates for training. Thanks, Monica

Sewing Days & Donations

Sewing days will be Monday and Tuesday, May 20 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a potluck lunch at noon both days. We are in need of more hands to help us assemble quilts. You don’t have to commit to both days or even a whole day. We welcome helpers even if it is only for a short time. Contact Betty Debner, Betty Rewerts, Karen Janssen or Margaret DeBower if you have any questions.

Memorial Day

The Memorial Day Service will be held at Vilmar’s South Cemetery by the Allison AmVets Post, mid-morning on Monday, May 27. The public is welcome to attend.

Parade Volunteers

• St. John’s – Vilmar Luther League will walk in the Allison Days parade on Saturday, June 1. We are looking for people to join us! If you are interested, meet us at the Butler County Fairgrounds on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. We will be passing out candy and Bible verse cards. Wear your Vilmar T-shirts! If you need one, we have a few select sizes left from last year.

• We will also be walking in the Greene River Days parade and the Bristow Days parade – more details will be available closer to those dates. If you have questions, please talk to Monica Edeker, 319-939-7348.

Sunday of Hope

Vilmar will hold its annual Sunday of Hope in June. The sanctuary will be decorated with Relay For Life luminaries in honor and memory of our loved ones who have been affected by cancer. If you would like to purchase a luminary please contact Margaret DeBower and Jennifer Seehusen. Cost is $10 each. The names will be read and a special prayer will be given to commemorate the day.

Mowing Volunteers

We are looking for mowing volunteers to take care of the church/parsonage lawns for the upcoming summer/fall. A sign-up sheet has been posted on the bulletin board in the narthex. Thank you to everyone for being good stewards of our land by helping to keep the church property looking sharp.

Community Bible Study

The Men’s and Women’s Community Bible Study/Prayer/Discipleship/Coffee group meets at Jurene Dralle’s home at 7 a.m. on Saturdays.

Vilmar Prayer Chain

St. John’s – Vilmar is looking to start a prayer chain for those who would be willing to actively participate in praying for those in need. If you would like to be included in this group, please let Monica Edeker know. Once a list of members has been received, we will put together the “chain” and distribute the list to each participant. Our intent is that each individual will regularly pray for our church, our leaders, our members, our shut-ins, and the people on our weekly prayer concerns and armed forces lists. If/when we are informed of specific prayer needs – and by the request of the family/person – the prayer chain will be activated and each participant will be responsible for calling the following person on the list to share the information and raise whomever it is up in prayer.

Reminder, if anyone would like to add an individual to our prayer list, please contact Monica Edeker at 319-939-7348.

Readers Needed

We are in need of volunteers to read the Sunday scriptures. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the narthex. The lectern Bible is NRSV. This version will be printed in the bulletin each week. The weekly readings will be bookmarked and labeled in the lectern Bible each Sunday so the reader can read The Word from the Bible. The Psalm is divided by whole verse and can be read from the bulletin. Thank you.

Fellowship Hosts Needed

We are looking for people to serve coffee and fellowship following the worship services on Sunday morning. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the narthax.

Sunday School Volunteers

We are always looking for a few more volunteers to occasionally assist on an as-need basis. If you would be interested in serving the church in this way, please talk to Julie Eberline.

Kitchen/Food Donations

We welcome donations of items for use in the kitchen or for serving food. We just ask that a note be left stating that it is for general use. Sometimes things are left and we don’t know if it is for a special occasion or something that anyone in the kitchen can use. Thank you.

Recycling Program

As some of you may know, or if you did not know, the council would like to remind and inform you of an opportunity to contribute to the church with your recycling. When you take your recycling (paper, magazines, cardboard, plastic, glass, bottles, etc.) to the Butler County Transfer Station, you can designate those items to the church. To do so, you will need to weigh the items, and write the total weight on the sheet provided by the station and mark it as “St. John’s – Vilmar.” At the end of the year, the station sends a reimbursement to the church for the recycling contributions. Thank you to all those who currently participate this way!
